RE: Reference News (《参考消息》)
Last night the American President was unable to sing our national anthem at the national football championship in Atlanta.

Dodgy

I thought it was weird that he smiled every time the crowd cheered, as if they were cheering for him alone. I'm sure he thought so.

Lipreading, it sure looks like "O bleh bleh bleh meh meh meh bleeee meh meh beh bleh blooooo."

Enough of him, and I hope that becomes permanent soon. Senator Diane Feinstein, who gets a lot of flak on Twitter for being "too old" showed her badass side today and released the entire Fusion-GPS transcript. And now Senators Grassley and Graham look even worse than ever for calling for its founder, Christopher Steele, to be criminally charged for opposition research paid for by a member of their own party. I've noticed Lady Karma working overtime this past year.

It was actually a really great day for Democrats:

1. Feinstein rocked!
2. Federal judges told North Carolina to fix their gerrymandered districts.
3. Another judge told Trump he can't just overturn Obama's DACA pledge to the Dreamers (immigrants brought here as children).
4. Steve Bannon had to quit his job with Breitbart. Tongue

Trump doesn't want immigrants from "shithole countries." While I, and my immigrant ancestors, might agree in principal that there are some countries that are "shitholes" (which is WHY they left--y'know....like....ummm...REFUGEES and stuff), despite, perhaps, demurring about the terminology....none of us are really going to get really excited about the idea that we, ourselves, are objectionable for the simple fact that we come from countries where there is starvation, or political repression, or genocide, or etc. We might be okay people, even if our country of origin wasn't/isn't exactly the best place ever to live.

I saw a hilarious post from someone obviously Norwegian, who pointed out that she or he had universal healthcare, free college, and lived in a nation judged to be one of the happiest, overall, in Europe: "why would I move to a shithole like the US?" No, I don't think the US is that--but, still: I find it extremely funny to contrast reality with The Yam's version of the world.

And then--all of that has been buried by....

Porn stars
Hawaii nuked--OOPS: JK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And, to put it all in perspective: Obama once wore a tan suit.

Jesus wept.

What we call the beginning is often the end
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
The end is where we start from.
--T. S. Eliot, "Little Gidding"

We have built no Temple but the CAPITOL; We consult no common oracle but the Constitution.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (King James Version, Matthew 25: 37-40)

Maybe someone should ask Trump why his ancestors moved from Kallstadt in Germany to the US... Or more precisely... Why he once claimed that they were actually from Karlstad in Sweden as Germans were not popular at the time...

Titania: Yes, Trump is a grandchild of immigrants and two of his wives were immigrants. So it's nonsensical that he is so anti-immigrant!

But then, he didn't understand that Barack Obama was an American, since Obama's mother was an American, and he was born and raised in Hawaii. Trump tried to say Obama's birth certificate was "fake" and that he must have been born in Africa (in one of those 'sh*+hole' countries, I guess).

And . . . tonight our government is shutting down because Trump ruined a bipartisan deal between Dems and Reps over children of illegal immigrants (Dreamers) and healthcare money for low-income children.

At midnight the government shuts down, unless there is a miracle in the next 20 minutes. It's the first time our gov has ever shut down when one party was in charge of both houses of Congress and the Presidency.

But the rumor is that Trump is angry and pouting about missing some party at Mar-A-Lago in Florida because he was told not to fly tonight while Congress was voting on the shutdown. Poor Little Donny. Tongue

Trump is not against all immigrants, just the ones who are the wrong color or religion. It's too bad the US was not more discerning when his grandfather emigrated here.

As for immigrants - on last year’s St Patrick‘s Day the Irish Prime Minister (or „ Taoiseach“) Enda Kenny paid a visit to the White House and gave an impassioned speech, pointing out that „St Patrick was an immigrant“, and also that the Irish emigrating to the USA were at that time coming from what „45“ would now call a “sh*+hole country”.

A great speech which I’m feeling reminded of again now... and again, it’s hilarious to watch “45”’s face during Kenny’s speech. Big Grin

EDIT: I’m hearing now from an Irish friend that this year there may not be a St Patrick’s Day reception for the new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar (who, by the way, clashed with “Head Brexiteer” Nigel Farage in the European Parliament on Wednesday, the eve of Varadkar’s birthday, over the Irish government’s position on Brexit). I wonder why? (NOT!) Also, probably no reception at the Vice President’s home; Varadkar is gay, and Pence might not like that either.

Farage attacking Varadkar at the European Parliament, and Varadkar’s reply:
